On 14th October, Simon Maycock, our Head of Technology, joined a delegation of business leaders from South Africa and Namibia on a fact-finding tour of Germany’s green hydrogen economy. This week-long trip, facilitated by the German Chamber of Commerce, brought together leaders eager to harness renewable energy and develop sustainable projects across sub-Saharan Africa.
The delegation visited key German institutions and businesses, including Neuman & Esser, a compressor manufacturer, and OWI, which collaborates with RWTH Aachen University.
The focus was on green hydrogen, ammonia, and green methanol technologies, all critical to future energy solutions. Simon highlighted the exciting potential for Storelectric to act as a storage holder and importer of green fuels, a vital component in our drive toward long-duration energy storage solutions.
In the coming decades we can expect green hydrogen to become an important part of Germany’s economy; this mission revealed how transformative these technologies could become across the globe. Simon’s trip marks a pivotal step in expanding Storelectric’s collaborations in both Europe and sub-Saharan Africa, where natural resources like sunlight and space are abundant, and there is tremendous opportunity to produce green hydrogen.
